Returning to his roots on the acoustic piano in the trio format, Julian Pollack will perform selections from the great American song book as well as classics from the Bebop repertoire and some of his original compositions. A pianist, keyboardist, and producer described by Timeout New York as a musician who “deftly balances virtuosity with tenderness,” Julian is an in-demand sideman and a leader of his own projects, touring with the multi-Grammy Award-winning jazz bassist, Marcus Miller. As J3PO, he recently released his new album, “Small Plates,” a collection of 12 tracks that range from simple lo-fi beats to complex jazztronica future house joints. Julian has a strong online presence with his Instagram channel, and his single “The Crab” has had nearly two million streams on Spotify.
Jazz trumpeter John Daversa—a multiple Grammy-winning player, composer, arranger, big band leader, and educator—will perform with his quartet. His celebrated and distinctive musical sound has been heard on numerous late-night TV talk shows and at jazz festivals all over the world. He has also had the opportunity to perform or record with such artists as Fiona Apple, Michael Bublé, Sheryl Crow, and Herbie Hancock. In 1996, he founded the John Daversa Progressive Big Band, which is one of the leading forces of modern jazz today. Junk Wagon: The Big Band Album won Best in Show in the 2011 Global Music Awards.
Daversa gets sounds to come out of his little red trumpet like you never heard.”
