SUMMARY:Festival Orchestra 1\, with soloists Jessica Fellowes and Katie Kadarauch
DESCRIPTION:To begin the classical Festival\, Maestro Allan Pollack will lead the orchestra in Shostakovich’s Festive Overture in A Major\, Op. 96\, an appropriately effervescent opening. Mozart’s joyful Sinfonia Concertante in E-flat Major for violin and viola will feature soloists Fellowes and Kadarauch. The partnership and equality shared by the soloists creates a searingly beautiful sound blend. The concert will conclude with Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 5 in B-flat Major\, composed in 1945 as a “a hymn to free and happy Man\, to his mighty powers\, his pure and noble spirit.”\n\n\n \n \n \n \n Welcome Page Allan Pollack 300x400web\n \n \n \n Jessica Fellowes\, Violin\n \n \n \n Katie Kadarauch\, viola\n \n \n \n\n\n\n	\n Public ticket sales begin May 6\, 2026\, at noon Pacific. SUMMARY:Festival Orchestra 2\, The Barber of Seville (concert version)
DESCRIPTION:Concert Version; Guest Conductor Ryan Murray\nThe Barber of Seville\, or The Useless Precaution\, is an opera buffa in two acts by Gioachino Rossini. Musicologists believe that the music was composed in just under three weeks\, although the famous overture was actually recycled from two earlier Rossini operas. SUMMARY:Piano Series: Ralph Van Raat and Heather Pinkham\, duo pianos
DESCRIPTION:The artists will play John Adams’ Hallelujah Junction for two pianos\, named after a small truck stop on US 395 near the California–Nevada border. Pinkham’s Mechanical Transcendence for two pianos tells the story of an android that wishes to become human. Joep Franssens’ Old Songs\, New Songs for two pianos will be followed by another Pinkham composition\, Onward and Upward for two pianos. Adams’ Short Ride in a Fast Machine\, a four- hand piano crowd-pleaser\, will close out the performance.\nI enjoy Van Raat on recording\, but given the chance to hear him again live\, I would run\, not walk.”- Christian B. Carey\, Musical America \nHeather Pinkham has everything it takes to become a phenomenon. The pianist\, composer and musicologist has developed into an original voice in the world of contemporary music. In her own work she combines the power of repetition with catchy melodies and narrative textures.”- International Holland Music Sessions \n\n\n\n\n	\n Public ticket sales begin May 6\, 2026\, at noon Pacific. SUMMARY:Calder Quartet 2023
DESCRIPTION:Hailed as “imaginative\, skillful creators” by the New York Times\, the Calder Quartet captivates audiences with its explorations of a broad repertoire\, always striving to fulfill the composer’s vision in their performances. The group’s distinctive artistry is exemplified by the musical curiosity they bring to everything they perform. This concert will feature Ravel’s String Quartet in F Major\, the only one he wrote\, which owes a clear debt to Debussy\, and Schubert’s String Quartet in G Major\, his last and greatest quartet\, with its lyrical ideas and major and minor modes.\nThe players …are particularly good at producing a beautifully rounded and unified sound\, as well as showing a generous sense of musical camaraderie.”- Los Angeles Times \n\n\n	\n \n2023 Featured Composer: Maurice Ravel\n \nFor 2023\, Susan Waterfall’s composer series will feature the innovative and influential Maurice Ravel. There’s a sense of immediacy to her delivery\, weaving in and out of the playing\, an intimately conceived present awareness of this heritage. SUMMARY:Festival Orchestra and Chorus
DESCRIPTION:The final concert will open with Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem\, with the Festival Chorus\, and soloists Silvie Jensen\, mezzo-soprano; Angela Moser\, soprano\, and Anders Froehlich\, baritone. Fauré wrote of the 1888 work\, “Everything I managed to entertain by way of religious illusion I put into my Requiem\, which moreover is dominated from beginning to end by a very human feeling of faith in eternal rest.” \nAfter intermission\, vocal soloist mezzo-soprano Silvie Jensen will sing Ravel’s rich and voluptuous Shéhérazade song cycle. The Festival Chorus will join the orchestra in Ravel’s Daphnis et Chloé Suite No. 2\, a choreographic symphony for orchestra and wordless chorus\, sometimes described as Ravel’s orchestral masterpiece. \n\n \n \n \n \n Silvie Jensen\, mezzo-soprano\n \n \n \n Angela Moser\, soprano\n \n \n \n Anders Froehlich\, baritone\n \n \n \n\n\n\n	\n Public ticket sales begin May 6\, 2026\, at noon Pacific. You’ve heard random gossip about this secretive composer. Now’s your chance to experience Ravel’s life and music in its historic context. With contemporary art and photographs\, and 26 musical excerpts\, you’ll get an overview of a composer whose creative life spanned the voluptuous conclusion of the Belle Epoque\, the trauma of the First World War\, and the new paths to modernism that emerged in the 20’s and 30’s. 85 years after his death\, nosy biographers are still trying to understand Ravel’s mysterious private life\, as inscrutable as his music is irresistible. \nWritten and directed by Susan Waterfall.\nArt and photograph collection by Mina Cohen.\nFilmed and edited by Julian Pollack. \nVIEW THE FILM
