SUMMARY:Festival Orchestra 4 2024
DESCRIPTION:The final concert offers comfort and hope in difficult times. Mozart’s Symphony No. 40\, sometimes referred to as the “Great G minor symphony” to distinguish it from No. 25\, the only other symphony he wrote in a minor key. It is one of his last works\, showing him at his most introspective and thoughtful. The magnificent Brahms Requiem features the Festival Chorus and soloists. Ein Deutsches Requiem is so named because Brahms used text from the German Lutheran Bible instead of the expected Roman Catholic Latin lyrics in his attempt to show the mercy of God\, rather than his judgment\, and to give consolation to those left behind. Soloists Carrie Hennessey\, soprano\, and Robert Sims\, baritone.\nCarrie Hennessey\, soprano \nRobert Sims\, baritone \n\n\n	\n Public ticket sales begin May 6\, 2026\, at noon Pacific. On Sunday\, July 6th\, Susan Waterfall’s film\, “Why We Love Igor\,” will provide an overview of the life and work of the 20th century’s greatest composer. The Russian-born composer revolutionized music with his ballets and experiments with rhythm and dissonance. Two concerts (one of which will be performed twice) will be devoted entirely to works by Stravinsky. Chamber Masterpieces will be played in the tent; Stravinsky at Home\, in Preston Hall\, will feature intimate and varied music by the composer\, dedicated to his wives\, children\, and close friends. Stravinsky’s varied compositions will be heard in other orchestra concerts and in Preston Hall performances.

SUMMARY:Kenny Washington\, with John R. Burr
DESCRIPTION:Recently dubbed the “Superman of the Bay Area jazz scene” by the San Francisco Chronicle\, Kenny Washington is a jazz virtuoso who thrills audiences with his soulful interpretations\, seemingly limitless range\, and rapid-fire scatting. Ravi Coltrane has declared Kenny his favorite male vocalist\, and Mark Murphy said in a Jazz Times interview that Kenny was the only contemporary male vocalist carrying on the tradition. \nThe thing is\, Washington slays ’em wherever he performs. Standing not quite five-foot-two\, he’s an oversize talent who can scat with the harmonic daring and rhythmic command of a bebop saxophonist\, croon with the simmering soul of Donny Hathaway\, and interpret standards with such intelligence and emotional commitment it’s like Rodgers and Hart wrote “I Didn’t Know What Time It Was” with him in mind.”- Andrew Gilbert\, eastbayexpress.com \nPianist John R. Burr combines a jazzy style with a love of folk music and singer-songwriters\, and has lent his talents to recordings by the Alison Brown Quartet and Paul McCandless\, among others. McCandless returned the favor by guesting on Burr’s debut solo effort\, 1998’s Piedmont Avenue. \n\n\n\n\n	\n Public ticket sales begin May 6\, 2026\, at noon Pacific. SUMMARY:Foxglove
DESCRIPTION:Twenty-three years ago\, three members of what would soon be Foxglove gathered on stage at the Caspar Community Center to record a live album in front of a capacity crowd. This trio of multitalented musicians—Morgan Daniel\, Gwyneth Moreland\, and John Bush—had been building a following at small\, local venues\, showcasing Gwyneth’s lovely voice\, Morgan’s songwriting\, John’s instrumental prowess\, and some sweet sibling harmonies. Booi Volk\, the future fourth member\, was in the audience that night\, a mandolin player whose playing would become a signature part of Foxglove’s sound. Since then the players have been involved with projects and other groups that have taken them to various parts of the globe\, but they always come home to their home in Mendocino County.\n\n\n	\n Public ticket sales begin May 6\, 2026\, at noon Pacific.
