SUMMARY:California Bluegrass Reunion
DESCRIPTION:Every year since 2012\, banjo master Bill Evans brought together a stellar collection of banjo players from all over the world and joined them with an all-star California-based band to present his California Banjo Extravaganza. In 2021\, Bill changed the format to a gathering of well-loved bluegrass musicians with strong California connections. These musicians have made music together in different combinations for decades and this concert features both their new and original compositions. The collective is highlighted by the double fiddling of acoustic legend Darol Anger and Chad Manning\, and abundant original instrumentals from mandolinist John Reischman and banjo player Bill Evans. The anchoring rhythm is provided by Jim Nunally on guitar and vocals and Sharon Gilchrist on bass.\n\n\n	\n Public ticket sales begin May 6\, 2026\, at noon Pacific. SUMMARY:Crary\, Evans and Barnick
DESCRIPTION:A flatpicking bluegrass guitar legend with an international reputation for innovation\, taste and brilliance\, Dan Crary is one of the founding fathers of the flatpicking and “newgrass” movements in Americana and Bluegrass music. He is joined by Bill Evans\, one of the most celebrated virtuosos in the history of the banjo\, and their soulful-singing partner and bass man\, Wally Barnick. A Crary\, Evans & Barnick show includes new songs and old stories\, blazing instrumental artistry\, and deep-down\, powerfully-felt musical moments. Furious and foot-tapping instrumental tunes\, and a little touch of glory-to-God and Earl and Woody and all the greats who showed the way.\nHis racing licks sounded like the fretboard equivalent of Fred Astaire dancing up\, then down a staircase.”- LA Times \n\n\n\n\n	\n Public ticket sales begin May 6\, 2026\, at noon Pacific. SUMMARY:Olatuja
DESCRIPTION:This new project finds Alicia and Michael Olatuja reuniting in music. OLATUJA blends Afro-Beat\, Jazz\, Funk\, and Soul. \nPraised by the New York Times as “a singer with a strong and luscious tone and an amiably regal presence on stage\,” Alicia Olatuja has been captivating audiences with her exquisite vocals and artistic versatility. She first came into the national spotlight while performing as the featured soloist with the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir at President Barack Obama’s second inauguration. Shortly thereafter\, she assembled her own jazz-based ensemble and recorded her first solo album. \n…from the start this band made rhythm paramount. Mr. Olatuja\, who grew up both Lagos\, Nigeria\, and London\, favors an amalgam of West African styles\, often overlaid with soul and gospel harmony. Ms. Olatuja is an American gospel singer with a strong\, lustrous tone and an amiable regal presence onstage.”- New York Times \n\n\n\n\n	\n Public ticket sales begin May 6\, 2026\, at noon Pacific. SUMMARY:Ranky Tanky
DESCRIPTION:A musical ensemble based in Charleston\, South Carolina\, Ranky Tanky specializes in jazz-influenced arrangements of traditional Gullah music\, a culture that originated among descendants of enslaved Africans along the coast of South Carolina and nearby islands. Apart from lead vocalist Quiana Parler\, four of the group’s members—Quentin Baxter\, Kevin Hamilton\, Clay Ross\, and Charlton Singleton—previously played together in a Charleston jazz quartet. Ranky Tanky comes from a Gullah expression that can be translated as “get funky” and the two-time Grammy winners can do just exactly that.\nSoulful honey to the ears…”- NPR All Things Considered \nLively and relevant”- Downbeat \n\n\n\n\n	\n Public ticket sales begin May 6\, 2026\, at noon Pacific. SUMMARY:Festival Orchestra and Chorus
DESCRIPTION:The final concert will open with Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem\, with the Festival Chorus\, and soloists Silvie Jensen\, mezzo-soprano; Angela Moser\, soprano\, and Anders Froehlich\, baritone. Fauré wrote of the 1888 work\, “Everything I managed to entertain by way of religious illusion I put into my Requiem\, which moreover is dominated from beginning to end by a very human feeling of faith in eternal rest.” \nAfter intermission\, vocal soloist mezzo-soprano Silvie Jensen will sing Ravel’s rich and voluptuous Shéhérazade song cycle. The Festival Chorus will join the orchestra in Ravel’s Daphnis et Chloé Suite No. 2\, a choreographic symphony for orchestra and wordless chorus\, sometimes described as Ravel’s orchestral masterpiece. \n\n \n \n \n \n Silvie Jensen\, mezzo-soprano\n \n \n \n Angela Moser\, soprano\n \n \n \n Anders Froehlich\, baritone\n \n \n \n\n\n\n	\n Public ticket sales begin May 6\, 2026\, at noon Pacific. You’ve heard random gossip about this secretive composer. Now’s your chance to experience Ravel’s life and music in its historic context. With contemporary art and photographs\, and 26 musical excerpts\, you’ll get an overview of a composer whose creative life spanned the voluptuous conclusion of the Belle Epoque\, the trauma of the First World War\, and the new paths to modernism that emerged in the 20’s and 30’s. 85 years after his death\, nosy biographers are still trying to understand Ravel’s mysterious private life\, as inscrutable as his music is irresistible. \nWritten and directed by Susan Waterfall.\nArt and photograph collection by Mina Cohen.\nFilmed and edited by Julian Pollack. \nVIEW THE FILM

SUMMARY:Susan Waterfall presents: Fauré in His World
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the exciting premiere of Susan Waterfall’s new film\, Fauré in His World. Immerse yourself in the composer’s world\, and enhance your experience of the many Fauré offerings in this summer’s Festival: the Festival Orchestra’s performance of his Elégie; Jeffrey LaDeur and Kindra Scharich’s performance of his L’hiver a cesse; the Calder Quartet’s performance of his only string quartet; and the two narrated chamber music concerts\, The Early Salon Years and Indian Summer. \nWaterfall’s film explores the cultural milieu and creative life of Gabriel Fauré (1845–1924) through art and photographs from his era and excerpts from all his major works. \nA Q&A will follow the screening. Thanks to Deborah Whigham and Gary Ratway for sponsoring this screening. \nWritten and directed by Susan Waterfall.\nArt and photograph collection by Mina Cohen.\nFilmed and edited by Julian Pollack. \nGET TICKETS\n\n\n	\n \n2024 Featured Composer: Gabriel Fauré\n \nFor 2024\, Susan Waterfall’s composer series will feature the innovative and influential Gabriel Fauré. Immerse yourself in his world and his music\, and understand how his music evolved over his lifetime with narrated chamber recitals featuring exciting guest artists\, and various other settings of Fauré’s work across the Festival. \nExplore the Series \nWaterfall’s productions always present exciting\, absorbing playing of great music\, but are also rare\, distinctive examples of what can be called music education\, though they’re more conversational\, truly a sharing of perspective\, interest\, anecdote. There’s a sense of immediacy to her delivery\, weaving in and out of the playing\, an intimately conceived present awareness of this heritage. It’s something unique that needs to be experienced.” -Ken Bullock\, Berkeley Daily Planet\n \n \n	\n\n\n\n\n	\n \nMusic critic Alex Ross describes the music of Fauré\, Proust’s favorite composer\, as “a bittersweet\, complicated happiness.” Gabriel Fauré’s songs and chamber music conjure the essence of Belle Epoque Paris with its unmatched assemblage of Symbolist and Impressionist artists. His music is the counterpart of gorgeous pre-Raphaelite imagery and the shapely lines of Art Nouveau. Throughout a life enriched by the salons\, and by the beautiful and talented women of his era\, Fauré created an intimate and subtle art\, a welcome antidote to today’s world. The sensuality and elan of Fauré’s music are balanced by its purity and ineffable beauty. \nFauré wrote some of his most astonishing music in his late seventies\, music strangely untouched by the Great War and its aftermath. This introspective and deeply expressive music evolved\, like late Beethoven\, from the isolation brought on by Fauré’s increasing deafness. \nWith a biographical film and three programs displaying his long and productive life you will learn all about this fascinating composer and feast in his sumptuous world. With this concert series and film\, Susan Waterfall completes her exploration of the great triumvirate of composers who created the glorious efflorescence of late 19th and early 20th century French music.

SUMMARY:Miko Marks
DESCRIPTION:Miko Marks is one of the Bay Area’s most visible country music singers\, but recently her role as a Black\, woman country music pioneer has gained attention. Marks\, who lives in Oakland\, was named one of CMT’s Next Women of Country in 2022 and recently made her third appearance on the Grand Ole Opry. The release of her third album\, Our Country\, in 2021\, finally sent Marks through the glass ceiling in Nashville. With a blend of country music’s storytelling and elements of blues\, gospel\, soul\, and Americana\, the recording reveals Marks’ many influences. In 2019\, Marks reconnected with two members of her live band\, Justin Phipps and Steve Wyreman\, founders of a community based recording business\, Redtone Records\, in East Palo Alto\, and she and the Resurrectors recorded the songs of social protest and prayerful pleading that got rave reviews from Billboard and Rolling Stone.\nWith a blend of country music’s storytelling and elements of blues\, gospel\, roots and\nAmericana\, Our Country has Marks stepping out as a genreless artist.”- Forbes \n…the singer-songwriter returns to recording with a genre- and industry-defying mission…Our Country would make a bracing but pleasing addition to the playlist at your house.”- Wall Street Journal \nMiko Marks… has reemerged as a supple\, charismatic roots artist\, and a hero to many musical heirs.”\n- National Public Radio \nWith its percussive groove\, funky piano part\, and red-hot slide lick\, “Ancestors” emphasizes Marks’ storytelling skills and soulful delivery while connecting the dots between Sharon Jones\, The Allman Brothers Band\, and Dolly Parton.”- Rolling Stone \n\n\n\n\n	\n Public ticket sales begin May 6\, 2026\, at noon Pacific.
