SUMMARY:Stravinsky at Home: Music for Family\, Friends\, Lovers
DESCRIPTION:The musicians will reveal surprising new sides to Stravinsky through the years in these intimate concerts. Alexander Katsman will accompany mezzo-soprano Silvie Jensen in Le Faune\, a songs composed by Stravinsky during his honeymoon. Jensen will be joined a bit later by Alexander on “Cradle Songs for a Cat.” Susan and Julian Waterfall Pollack will play “Eight Easy Pieces” on one piano. Eric Kritz will take a turn on “Three Solo Pieces for Clarinet\,” deeply moving and soulful Russian music. Following a brief intermission\, Carolyn Steinbuck and Sam Weiser will play excerpts from Duo Concertante\, Stravinsky’s important work for piano and violin. Sarah Cahill and Elizabeth Dorman will team up on Concerto for Two Pianos\, considered one of Stravinsky’s major compositions for the instruments. Jensen and Katsman will return for “The Owl and the Pussycat\,” Stravinsky’s final completed composition\, which he based on a poem by Edward Lear. \n\n \n \n \n \n Ben Albertson\, harp\n \n \n \n Johanna Borenstein\, flute\n \n \n \n Silvie Jensen\, mezzo-soprano\n \n \n \n Eric Kritz\, clarinet\n \n \n \n Sam Weiser\, violin\n \n \n \n Matthew Wherley\, guitar\n \n \n \n \n \n Sarah Cahill\, piano\n \n \n \n Elizabeth Dorman\, piano\n \n \n \n Alexander Katsman\, piano\n \n \n \n Julian Pollack\, piano\n \n \n \n Carolyn Steinbuck\, piano\n \n \n \n Susan Waterfall\, piano\n \n \n \n\n\n\n	\n \n2025 Featured Composer: Igor Stravinsky\n \nFor 2025\, Susan Waterfall’s composer series will feature the innovative and influential Igor Stravinsky. SUMMARY:Festival Orchestra 3
DESCRIPTION:Festival Orchestra with guest conductor Francesco Lecce-Chong and soloist Julian Rhee. “Igor on My Mind\,” Allan Pollack’s fun-loving\, energetic and rhythmic piece\, impishly steals motifs straight out of Igor Stravinsky’s orchestral music. Then the real Stravinsky will be heard in the Violin Concerto in D\, a neoclassical piece in four movements\, written in the summer of 1931. It was used by George Balanchine as music for two ballets. Beethoven’s 5th Symphony is one of the most-frequently played compositions in classical music\, but after the familiar opening notes\, it offers surprising new passages to the close listener. At the time he wrote it\, Beethoven was becoming increasingly deaf and correspondingly interested in the music’s theme of heroic struggle. \n\n\n	\n \n2025 Featured Composer: Igor Stravinsky\n \nFor 2025\, Susan Waterfall’s composer series will feature the innovative and influential Igor Stravinsky. Immerse yourself in his world and his music\, and understand how his music evolved over his lifetime with narrated chamber recitals featuring exciting guest artists\, and various other settings of Stravinsky’s work across the Festival. \nWaterfall’s productions always present exciting\, absorbing playing of great music\, but are also rare\, distinctive examples of what can be called music education\, though they’re more conversational\, truly a sharing of perspective\, interest\, anecdote. SUMMARY:Charlie Musselwhite
DESCRIPTION:American blues harmonica player and bandleader who came to prominence\, along with Mike Bloomfield\, Paul Butterfield\, and Elvin Bishop\, as a pivotal figure in helping to revive the Chicago Blues movement of the 1960s\, Musselwhite has often been called a “white bluesman.” He was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 2010. At the 40th Blues Music Awards ceremony in 2019\, Musselwhite’s joint composition with Ben Harper\, “No Mercy In This Land\,” was named as Song of the Year. In 2023\, he won another Blues Music Award\, Acoustic Album of the Year\, for his LP\, “Mississippi Son.” Don’t miss hearing this legend in our own backyard!\nLegendary is an overused term\, but it’s also the only word that suits this heavyweight blues harpist.”- Time Out New York \nHarmonica virtuoso Musselwhite raises the level of emotional expression on his instrument beyond even the masters he learned from…the grizzled veteran richly decorates his music with telling nuance and chiseled detail.”- San Francisco Chronicle \nLegendary is a word we sometimes toss around a little too easily\, but in the case of Charlie Musselwhite it is more than appropriate – a byword for musical excellence”\n- Americana UK \nMusselwhite’s blend of Chicago and Delta blues mixed with Memphis soul is pure magic.”- Rock & Blues Muse \n\n\n\n\n	\n Public ticket sales begin May 6\, 2026\, at noon Pacific. SUMMARY:Festival Orchestra 4
DESCRIPTION:The final concert will open with Ad Matrem\, Henryk Gorecki’s sacred work for soprano\, mixed chorus\, and orchestra. Based on the text of the 13th century hymn\, Stabat Mater Dolorosa\, this piece is almost a symphonic poem. Lux Aeterna\, by Morten Lauridsen\, is a choral work fashioned on texts from several different Latin sources\, including the Requiem mass\, with each movement containing a reference to light and all it connotes. The concert and festival will come to a fitting end with Rite of Spring\, Stravinsky’s evocation of the Slavic folk spirit\, with its violent sacrificial dance and extraordinary elemental power.\n\n\n	\n \n2025 Featured Composer: Igor Stravinsky\n \nFor 2025\, Susan Waterfall’s composer series will feature the innovative and influential Igor Stravinsky. SUMMARY:Kurt Weill: His Life\, His Songs
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Kurt Weill with a screening of Susan Waterfall’s 2021 film\, The Life and Music of Kurt Weill\, followed by a live performance by mezzo-soprano Silvie Jensen with pianist Sarah Cahill. We’ll see the uncut film (including the 21+ minutes missing from the abbreviated\, 49-minute version that got 32\,000+ YouTube views)\, and then enjoy a brief musical performance. \nWhat happens when an impeccably trained young German composer decides he wants a new audience? When a nice Jewish boy starts hanging out with a Marxist poet and a Viennese flapper? When the distinction between highbrow and lowbrow becomes irrelevant? Susan Waterfall and her team have created a film describing Kurt Weill’s life and work\, including a unique collection of both historic and contemporary performances of his songs. Weill communicated the soul and style of Modernity while he survived the sweeping historic changes of Weimar Berlin\, the rise of Hitler\, Paris in the early 1930s\, and Broadway in the 1940s. A Q&A with filmmaker Susan Waterfall will follow the screening. \nAfter a brief intermission\, we’ll be treated to a performance by mezzo-soprano Silvie Jensen and pianist Sarah Cahill of selected Weill works. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\nBUY TICKETS

SUMMARY:Festival Orchestra 1\, with Stephen Prutsman\, Piano
DESCRIPTION:To kick off the Festival’s 40th season’s orchestral offerings\, Allan Pollack will lead the musicians in Leonard Bernstein’s sprightly Candide overture. SUMMARY:Carolyn Wonderland
DESCRIPTION:With her dynamic guitar playing\, formidable songwriting and pure vocals\, Carolyn Wonderland hits the stage with an unmatched presence\, mixing the depths of the Texas blues tradition with the wit of a poet. Wonderland plays original\, bluesified\, cosmic soul music\, mixed with heavy doses of Tex-Mex and riff-fueled rock ‘n’ roll. Performing professionally since the age of 15\, and on the road her entire career\, she’s played with icons from Townes Van Zandt to Levon Helm\, from Bob Dylan to John Mayall\, all while writing her own story. \nOne of Texas’ finest guitar-slingers…from blues to country to rock ‘n’ roll and beyond\, she is fiery and deeply soulful.”- Austin American Statesman \nPure electricity…astonishing playing and soulful\, sophisticated singing…Wonderland delivers her cleverly penned lyrics with sly joy as her guitar bites. Her passionate singing is expressive\, romantic and sensual. Her solos burn and elevate the groove.”- AllMusic Carolyn Wonderland is the sound of Texas. She’s a feisty free-ranger\, lassoing a variety of roof-rattling styles into her own inimitable take on twangy blues dripping with honky-tonk grease. Her vocals are a bluesy cowgirl’s dream come true.”- No Depression \n\n\n\n\n	\n Public ticket sales begin May 6\, 2026\, at noon Pacific. Want early access to tickets\, before public sales open? DESCRIPTION:For Brittany Davis\, sound is three-dimensional. It is size\, shape\, and color. It is language. Blind since birth\, Davis discovered a world of vivid\, vibrant color in music. A childhood appreciation for gospel and jazz gave way to a teenage obsession with hip-hop and R&B. Later\, Davis crossed paths with Afro-punk musicians\, rock artists\, and members of the Black rock & roll scene\, which opened up new worlds of sound.\nBrittany davis is the most compelling artist I’ve ever worked with.
