Following one of his many recital appearances\, it was stated in a Los Angeles Times’ review that “Daniel Lockert was the expert pianist of the occasion; his sensitive and authoritative playing matched in every way the level of the singing.” \nDaniel has been the musical director for many shows and theatrical productions\, including I Do! I Do!\, Fiddler on the Roof\, Side by Side by Sondheim\, You’re Gonna Love Tomorrow\, Company\, Into the Woods (twice)\, and the Light in the Piazza. SUMMARY:Venice 2018
DESCRIPTION:Performing together since 1980 and consisting of two sets of brothers\, Venice’s music is a reflection of growing up in the California beach town for which the group is named. With sounds at once familiar and fresh\, their music is a winning hybrid of folk/rock/soul. Venice’s trademarks are their beautiful harmonies\, personal lyrics\, and high-energy shows; their distinctive vocal sounds have allowed them to perform and record with some of the biggest names in the music industry.\nVenice\, one of my favorite bands\, is quintessentially Californian\, with soaring harmonies.  They sing and play their asses off.  I’ve seen them knock out many an unsuspecting crowd\, taking the audiences\, who had not come to see them\, completely by surprise.  It’s such a pleasure to play with these guys\, because they have that power.”- Jackson Browne \nVenice is the best vocal group in America right now.  They’re better than anybody else I know.  They’re fantastic.  I’m a student of harmony.  That’s my thing.  I love all kinds of harmony.  But I particularly love theirs\, because it’s so natural.  It’s not like anybody else’s.  Very unforced\, very from their hearts.  I’ve been telling people about them since the first night I heard them.  I’ve told everybody I could find that they were the best.  This is my favorite band in the world.”- David Crosby \nI’ve been listening to Venice for years!  Their vocals and harmonies are so beautiful.  Something that I really learned from as a singer!”- Colbie Caillat \n\n\n\n\n	\n \nProof of completed COVID-19 vaccination\, including at least one booster\, is required\, and masks must be properly worn at all times while on event premises. Though it might exceed official requirements\, this policy is based on current conditions and the results of our most recent audience survey. \n\n \n	\n\n\n\nCHOOSE SEATS AND BUY

SUMMARY:The Dustbowl Revival 2018
DESCRIPTION:With a vibrant mix of vintage Americana sounds\, this eight-piece group “would have sounded utterly at home within the hallowed confines of Preservation Hall in New Orleans’ French Quarter\,” according to the Los Angeles Times.\nTheir sonic explorations exemplify everything shows should be: hot\, spontaneous\, engaging and\, best of all\, a pleasure to hear.”- L. A. Weekly \nThe music is so genuine\, you can almost taste the PBR and port wine being passed around the front porch during the Great Depression on the bayou\, or on the post-fire Chicago streets. Trumpets blaze\, guitars wail\, and the spirit of a great revival becomes you.”- Train Wreck’d Society \nIn a city like Los Angeles\, home to musical stars in nearly every known genre\, handing out the Best Live Band title is not easy. But the free-thinking local collective Dustbowl Revival’s upbeat\, old-school\, All-American sonic safaris exemplify everything shows should be: hot\, spontaneous\, engaging and\, best of all\, a pleasure to hear.”- LA Weekly \nIt was an old-time medicine show featuring the kind of roots music that normally isn’t my cup of twang\, except it offered great bands like the Dustbowl Revival\, whose Americana swing was so fun I went back to see them again the next day.”- Rolling Stone \n\n\n\n\n	\n \nProof of completed COVID-19 vaccination\, including at least one booster\, is required\, and masks must be properly worn at all times while on event premises. DESCRIPTION:Chopin Series Opening Presentation\nSusan Waterfall’s multimedia exploration of Frederic Chopin’s life and times (1810-1849) will explore his early years as a musical prodigy in Warsaw\, and his last 19 years as a popular composer and piano virtuoso in Paris.  Chopin’s dedication to Bach\, Mozart\, Italian opera\, and traditional Polish music and his relationships with Schumann\, Liszt\, George Sand\, Delacroix\, and Mickiewicz will be discussed.  Learn about Chopin’s invention and development of musical genres such as the prelude\, the ballade\, and the nocturne.  While creating an idealized image of Poland\, Chopin awakened a universal longing for a lost homeland.  Local artist Mina Cohen’s images will illuminate the presentation\, and recordings will enhance it. \n\n\n	\n \nProof of completed COVID-19 vaccination\, including at least one booster\, is required\, and masks must be properly worn at all times while on event premises. DESCRIPTION:Kim Nalley \nKenny Washington \n\nThe red-hot Festival Big Band plays the perennially sold-out concert\, this year with two vocalists to add to the high energy.  Last year’s Big Band vocalist Kim Nalley returns again this year to set the woods\, and the house\, on fire.  According to Down Beat\, “Sultry voiced Nalley brings an irresistibly sexy sense of swing\, rhythmic dexterity and beautiful sound to the classics\, with her crisp diction and playful delivery of earthy lines.”  New Orleans native Kenny Washington has a childhood background in gospel\, but is at home with the blues as well as jazz.  He can scat with the harmonic daring and rhythmic command of a bebop saxophonist\, croon with the simmering soul of Donny Hathaway\, and interpret standards with intelligence and emotional commitment. \nThe Festival Big Band:\nSaxophones: Jim Dukey\, Jimmy Kraft\, Greg D’Augelli\, Frances Vaneck; Barbara D’Augelli\nTrumpets: Doug Morton\, Jim Rodseth\, John Capobianco\, Josh Reed\nTrombones: Don Benham\, Tonya Akley\, Jeanne Geiger\, Matt Hall\nBass: Jerry Watts\, Jr.\nDrums: Ralph Humphrey\nGuitar: Terry Simcik\nPiano: Julian Pollack \n\n\n	\n \nProof of completed COVID-19 vaccination\, including at least one booster\, is required\, and masks must be properly worn at all times while on event premises. SUMMARY:Opera: Cimarosa\, Il Matrimonio Segreto\, Luçik Aprahämian\, Guest Conductor
DESCRIPTION:Guest conductor Luçik Aprahämian \nStage director Erin Neff \nThe original setting is Bologna in the 1700s. Geronimo is a cranky older man with two daughters\, Carolina and Elisetta. He also has a hearing problem and constantly misunderstands everything he’s told. Carolina has recently married Geronimo’s clerk\, Paolino\, without telling anyone because Geronimo would never have consented. To deal with Geronimo\, Paolino has arranged a match between Elisetta and a wealthy nobleman\, Count Robinson. Geronimo has always envied the nobility so the hope is that Elisetta’s engagement will soften the blow of Carolina’s marriage to Paolino.  At first\, the plan seems like it might actually work\, but then Aunt Fidalma\, Geronimo’s widowed sister\, confesses that she has fallen in love with Paolino! \nShawnette Sulker\, Carolina; Tonia D’Amelia\, Elisetta; Sylvie Jensen\, Fidalma; Michael Desnoyers\, Paolino; Bojan Knezevic\, Geronimo; and Ben Brady\, Count Robinson.  \nTicket price includes pre-concert lecture at 6:30\n\n	\n \nProof of completed COVID-19 vaccination\, including at least one booster\, is required\, and masks must be properly worn at all times while on event premises. Though it might exceed official requirements\, this policy is based on current conditions and the results of our most recent audience survey. \n\n \n	\n\n\n\nCHOOSE SEATS AND BUY \n\n\n\n	\n \nWe caught up with stage director Erin Neff to find out what sort of hilarity she’s plotting this time. Sure enough\, her first words were “This opera will be very\, very funny! Set in the 1950s\, think sketch comedy meets opera. It’s a farce.” \nAsked what drives her choice of setting\, Erin explained that to some extent a modern setting is a practicality in smaller companies\, where an inadequate attempt at a period setting can end up looking amateurish. Also\, she often finds that a more current setting helps bring the story to life\, making it more relatable. We understand car salesman; a land baron\, maybe not so much. \nAs for the music\, Erin says “If you love Mozart you’ll love Cimarosa.” According to one critic\, “Il Matrimonio Segreto has the exciting challenges of Rossini-like vocal lines\, Italian recitative\, and comedic acting. In fact\, it lives as a musical bridge between Mozart and Rossini.” \nSomehow in comedic operas from this era the glorious effervescent music seems to somehow manage to amplify the humor; making for a much-needed evening of vigorous laughter.\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n \n	\n\n\nCHOOSE SEATS AND BUY
