SUMMARY:Chopin: Dreams and Memories of a Lost Homeland; Multimedia Lecture by Susan Waterfall
DESCRIPTION:Chopin Series Opening Presentation\nSusan Waterfall’s multimedia exploration of Frederic Chopin’s life and times (1810-1849) will explore his early years as a musical prodigy in Warsaw\, and his last 19 years as a popular composer and piano virtuoso in Paris.  Chopin’s dedication to Bach\, Mozart\, Italian opera\, and traditional Polish music and his relationships with Schumann\, Liszt\, George Sand\, Delacroix\, and Mickiewicz will be discussed.  Learn about Chopin’s invention and development of musical genres such as the prelude\, the ballade\, and the nocturne.  While creating an idealized image of Poland\, Chopin awakened a universal longing for a lost homeland.  Local artist Mina Cohen’s images will illuminate the presentation\, and recordings will enhance it. \n\n\n	\n \nProof of completed COVID-19 vaccination\, including at least one booster\, is required\, and masks must be properly worn at all times while on event premises. Though it might exceed official requirements\, this policy is based on current conditions and the results of our most recent audience survey. \n\n \n	\n\n\n\nBUY TICKETS\n\n	\n \nChopin: Dreams and Memories of a Lost Homeland\n \nAlthough Chopin’s art is almost entirely dedicated to music for solo piano\, it has been enormously influential\, and to this day is astonishingly well known and beloved. \nJoin Susan Waterfall and an array of exceptional Festival musicians for four days of lectures and narrated concerts about Frédéric Chopin’s life and music. \nExplore the Series \n“Waterfall’s productions always present exciting\, absorbing playing of great music\, but are also rare\, distinctive examples of what can be called music education\, though they’re more conversational\, truly a sharing of perspective\, interest\, anecdote. There’s a sense of immediacy to her delivery\, weaving in and out of the playing\, an intimately conceived present awareness of this heritage. It’s something unique that needs to be experienced.” Ken Bullock\, Berkeley Daily Planet \n \n	\n\n\n\n\n\n	\n \nProof of completed COVID-19 vaccination\, including at least one booster\, is required\, and masks must be properly worn at all times while on event premises.
