SUMMARY:Festival Orchestra 1\, with Stephen Prutsman\, Piano
DESCRIPTION:To kick off the Festival’s 40th season’s orchestral offerings\, Allan Pollack will lead the musicians in Leonard Bernstein’s sprightly Candide overture. The energy will continue to flow when soloist Stephen Prutsman returns to Mendocino to perform Prokofiev’s demanding Piano Concerto No. 3. After we catch our breaths at intermission\, we’ll enjoy the energetic 7th Symphony of Ludwig van Beethoven\, this year’s featured composer. Beethoven considered it one of his best works\, and listeners since have heartily agreed. \nFollowing this performance\, join us outside the Tent Concert Hall for a 40th birthday celebration\, with birthday cupcakes and a champagne toast to 40 seasons of Music on the Edge of the World!\n\n\n	\n Public ticket sales begin May 6\, 2026\, at noon Pacific. Want early access to tickets\, before public sales open? Click here to find out how.\n \n	\n\n\n\nCHOOSE SEATS AND BUY \n\n\n	\n \n2026 Featured Composer: Ludwig van Beethoven\n \nLate 18th century Europe. A world in turmoil. A musical genius is born into circumstances that nourish his talent\, but starve him emotionally. He has an innate\, unwavering desire to cure suffering with music that expresses a more perfect world. More than 250 years later\, we are drawn again to Beethoven’s phenomenal musical imagination\, compassion\, and charismatic vision to find meaning and inspiration. Immerse yourself in his world and his music\, and understand how his music evolved over his lifetime\, with a documentary film\, narrated chamber recitals featuring exciting guest artists\, and various other settings of Beethoven’s work across the Festival. \nWaterfall’s productions always present exciting\, absorbing playing of great music\, but are also rare\, distinctive examples of what can be called music education\, though they’re more conversational\, truly a sharing of perspective\, interest\, anecdote. There’s a sense of immediacy to her delivery\, weaving in and out of the playing\, an intimately conceived present awareness of this heritage. It’s something unique that needs to be experienced.” -Ken Bullock\, Berkeley Daily Planet\n \nExplore the Series \n\n \n	\n\n\n\n\n	\n \nBeethoven\, Now!\, curated by Susan Waterfall\, includes her documentary film on his life and music\, and performances of seventeen of his works spread over nine symphony and chamber concerts. Two narrated chamber concerts will each include four of his works; pianist Anthony Ratinov will perform Sonata No. 8 in C minor\, the Pathétique; the Calder Quartet will perform his last completed major work\, his String Quartet No. 16 in F Major; pianist Rachel Breen will perform his last three Sonatas\, Op. 109\, 110 and 111; and the Festival Orchestra will perform his 6th and 7th symphonies\, closing the Festival with his iconic 9th Symphony.

SUMMARY:Carolyn Wonderland
DESCRIPTION:With her dynamic guitar playing\, formidable songwriting and pure vocals\, Carolyn Wonderland hits the stage with an unmatched presence\, mixing the depths of the Texas blues tradition with the wit of a poet. Wonderland plays original\, bluesified\, cosmic soul music\, mixed with heavy doses of Tex-Mex and riff-fueled rock ‘n’ roll. Performing professionally since the age of 15\, and on the road her entire career\, she’s played with icons from Townes Van Zandt to Levon Helm\, from Bob Dylan to John Mayall\, all while writing her own story. \nOne of Texas’ finest guitar-slingers…from blues to country to rock ‘n’ roll and beyond\, she is fiery and deeply soulful.”- Austin American Statesman \nPure electricity…astonishing playing and soulful\, sophisticated singing…Wonderland delivers her cleverly penned lyrics with sly joy as her guitar bites. Her passionate singing is expressive\, romantic and sensual. Her solos burn and elevate the groove.”- AllMusic Carolyn Wonderland is the sound of Texas. She’s a feisty free-ranger\, lassoing a variety of roof-rattling styles into her own inimitable take on twangy blues dripping with honky-tonk grease. Her vocals are a bluesy cowgirl’s dream come true.”- No Depression \n\n\n\n\n	\n Public ticket sales begin May 6\, 2026\, at noon Pacific. Want early access to tickets\, before public sales open? SUMMARY:Brittany Davis & Black Thunder\, with D'Vonne Lewis and Evan Flory-Barnes
DESCRIPTION:For Brittany Davis\, sound is three-dimensional. It is size\, shape\, and color. It is language. Blind since birth\, Davis discovered a world of vivid\, vibrant color in music. A childhood appreciation for gospel and jazz gave way to a teenage obsession with hip-hop and R&B. Later\, Davis crossed paths with Afro-punk musicians\, rock artists\, and members of the Black rock & roll scene\, which opened up new worlds of sound.\nBrittany davis is the most compelling artist I’ve ever worked with. Her musical ear and keyboard skill\, humor\, honesty\, and sheer courage is a wonder to behold.”- Stone Gossard\, Pearl Jam \n\n\n\n	\n Public ticket sales begin May 6\, 2026\, at noon Pacific. SUMMARY:Steel Wheels
DESCRIPTION:Virginia-based folk-rock band The Steel Wheels have spent almost 20 years writing\, recording\, and touring\, all the while constantly honing their evolving brand of American roots music. Additionally\, they are the founders and hosts of the Red Wing Roots Music Festival\, a beloved staple of the Shenandoah Valley. SUMMARY:Festival Orchestra 2: La bohème\, with Ryan Murray\, Conductor
DESCRIPTION:Puccini’s famous opera is the story of love\, friendship\, poverty\, and tragic death. Set in Bohemian Paris of the 1830s\, it tells of four friends\, all struggling artists of one sort or another. Mimi and Rodolfo meet and fall in love on Christmas Eve. Musetta and Marcello also love one another and\, like Mimi and Rodolfo\, are destitute. Beautifully melodic arias and duets abound in this opera as Mimi and her friends face their challenges. Musicals Rent and Moulin Rouge are based on this opera. \n\n \n \n \n \n Carrie Hennessey (Mimi)\n \n \n \n Sal Atti (Rodolfo)\n \n \n \n Robert Balonek (Marcello)\n \n \n \n Bianca Orsi (Musetta)\n \n \n \n \n \n Matthew Peterson (Schaunard)\n \n \n \n Colin Ramsey (Colline)\n \n \n \n Andrew Pardini (Benoit\, Alcindoro)\n \n \n \n\n\n\n	\n Public ticket sales begin May 6\, 2026\, at noon Pacific. SUMMARY:BeauSoleil
DESCRIPTION:For the past 50 years\, BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet has been making some of the most potent and popular Cajun music on the planet. Born out of the rich Acadian ancestry of its members\, and driven by bandleader Michael Doucet’s spellbinding fiddle playing and soulful vocals\, BeauSoleil is notorious for bringing even the most staid audience to its feet. BeauSoleil’s distinctive sound derives from the distilled spirits of New Orleans jazz\, blues rock\, folk\, swamp pop\, Zydeco\, country and bluegrass. \nCritics unanimously agree that it is ‘bon temps\,’ every time they play.”- New York Times \n\n\n\n\n\n	\n Public ticket sales begin May 6\, 2026\, at noon Pacific. SUMMARY:Festival Orchestra 3\, with Francesco Lecce-Chong\, Conductor; Mio Imai\, violin
DESCRIPTION:Shuying Li’s Purple Mountains overture will begin an evening of graceful lyricism and energetic rhythms. Amazing young violinist Mio Imai will perform Samuel Barber’s esteemed Violin Concerto. In her hands\, elegant solo melodies will soar and mesh with lush orchestral textures. Beethoven’s 6th Symphony\, the “Pastoral Symphony\,” is one of his few pieces with explicitly programmatic content\, narrating in five movements a visit to the countryside. Written at the same time as his fateful and heroic 5th Symphony\, it strikes a very different note\, transporting listeners to a babbling brook with singing birds and dancing peasants. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n	\n Public ticket sales begin May 6\, 2026\, at noon Pacific. SUMMARY:Tom Rush
DESCRIPTION:Tom Rush is a gifted musician and performer whose shows offer a musical journey into the tradition and spectrum of what music has been\, can be\, and will become. His distinctive guitar style\, wry humor\, and warm\, expressive voice have made him a legend to audiences around the world. His shows are filled with the laughter of terrific story-telling\, the sweet melancholy of ballads\, and the passion of gritty blues. Rush’s impact on the American music scene has been profound\, helping shape the folk revival in the ‘60s and the renaissance of the ‘80s and ‘90s.\nThe Kennedy Center Concert Hall was packed and the stage crowded with musicians and friends Saturday night. Rush and his fellow performers not only celebrated the past and the traditions that link one generation of musicians to the next\, but they also made the future for acoustic music look bright indeed.
